The weather is very mixed at the moment. It's been raining so far for much of the day. But that doesn't stop the trees and plants from looking their best. The ramsons (wild garlic) are at their best in parts of Colinton Dell at the minute.
And the wych elms are wonderful at the moment
Plus this large fungus suddenly appeared and has already been nibbled
No sign of the spotted flycatchers today (though heavy rain probably isn't the best weather for catching flies!). I hope they decide to settle in the Dells this year. Though even if they're just passing through that's more than I'm aware of them having done for many years!

Very pretty plants and flowers. I love the mushrooms. Have a happy day and new week ahead!

I think that's Dryad's Saddle. It can get really enormous, especially when it grows on an upper surface and has room for the bracket to expand in all directions.
Thanks Rob, I certainly think this fungus is going to get enormous. I've seen it before but I don't think I've ever put a name to it.
I love the lush wildness of nature...we have a huge fungus on one of our tree stumps.
how pretty and green!
A lovely post. I never thought much about it before, but presumably the 'Wych' in Elm is much the same as in Hazel? Those Wych Elm photos are magnificent. A lovely afternoon yesterday ... back to (almost) wintry conditions here today.
Rain - hmmm. Our state - Washington - is under a severe drought alert due to very low winter snows and almost no snow pack for summer flow in rivers. Does your area have drought conditions sometimes?
Hi Caroline - I'd never thought about that connection for 'wych' either, i wonder.....
Rabbits' Guy - the south of England sometimes has droughts and the rivers sometimes run low even in Scotland, but Edinburgh as far as i know has never actually had a drought
Beautiful green, nice mushrooms too!
