We're just back from a lovely few days in Peebles, in the Scottish Borders. More blog posts to follow but for now, here is one of the many young common toads we saw - this one was much friendlier than most.....
Cute photo! I had a major rescue-effort yesterday. Scooped up about 10 of them from my window well. I was using a yogurt container and just tossing them out on the grass. As fast as I was getting them out, they were leaping back in like some suicidal maniacs. Crazy. I managed to rescue most of them.
(We did have a cover on the well, but either they were coming up from underneath the gravel, or they sneaked in under the edges of the cover.)
That is too cute. I don't see frogs and toads very often anymore. It may be that I'm just too much in the big city but I fear it is also due to the die off of amphibians as well. There is nothing like hearing them sing at night!

I was in Melrose at the weekend! Glorious weather, whilst back home they had two days of deluge.
How still was that foot standing?!
Crafty Green Boyfriend kept his foot very still while the toad clambered all over it....
Lovely photo Juliet but a bit too close for comfort as far as I am concerned.

Lots of little baby tree frogs around here now. They seem to not yet have anything but curiosity!!
