Autumn on Arthur's Seat

views from Arthurs' Seat

We had a lovely walk round Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, today. The weather was wonderful, warm and sunny, though the dark clouds gathered later as you can see from the second photo! The jackdaws that nest here in the summer were out in number, calling and flying around, one even started fighting with a magpie! There were some swans and geese on Dunsapie Loch, and I'll share photos of them next week! We saw one lone and scruffy rabbit, where usually there are several, perhaps there were just too many people around for them!

From below, this peak looks craggy in its rough hewn rock, a tough climb. Yet on top, we don't see the daunting stone but instead see a pleasant valley below, the bit of sun showing us that this expedition has its reward in the view. Very nice, a rough hewn beauty and the lovely countryside...

"Arthur's Seat" evokes images of knights, jousts, and other medieval activities. The view is wonderful, also, and I enjoyed finding out a little about jackdaws.
Thanks for the visit!

What a brooding sky, CGP. Wonderful photos.

Thought of you today when two tall furry ears popped up in the bracken on our Gower walk. First rabbit I have seen possibly since I left Skye in June!

It seems so strange to see Autumn's fingerprints on your beautiful lands, oh so far away!

Beautiful photos. I like how everything seems dwarfed by those clouds in the second one.

The top photo looks like a painting - couldn't work out what those tall white things were on the far left - then realised they are high rise buildings - talk aboutr spoiling the picture! I love the name Arthru's Seat too.

It was lovely to see your photos of Arthur's Seat! I was there over 30 years ago and still remember visitng it. You see my maiden name was Arthur - and we always said it was named for us! lol
Great photos for the week!

I'm surprised to see how green it still looks. I would have thought that since you are so far north that all the leaves would be off the trees by now.

Lovely photos! Oh, to be able to see fall colors. The only color change we have here in Florida, is from green to brown, when everything dries up and dies.

Pretty place, I hadn't heard of it until my niece told she is going there at this year. She is married to a man from England, and her mom in law is Shani Oates.

Hello there CGP : )
Now this is amazing seeing Arthur's Seat ! .. My father's family came from Scotland a very long time ago .. mid 1700's and settled in Nova Scotia (New Scotland) .. so I appreciate the country side you have shown in your pictures : )
I also have a friend in Falkirk so a tiny thread holds me to a little bit of Scotland ? : )

That is really a beautiful walk -- perfect view! Thanks for sharing your day!

I need to go look up Jackdaw, as I feel like I've hear the word before, maybe in nursery rhymes, but I can't picture exactly what the bird looks like.
