Hard to imagine from a rain drenched summer
the sunstroke migraine under sun blonded hair
crops wilting in the fields, cornstalks breaking brown
fish struggling in shallow waters
wildfires raging in tinder dry forests
while from my rainy city I dream
of gentle sunshine on my face.
The sun for Read Write Poem
The sun has just popped out! Must have been inspired by this poem.
There's a lot of rain this year in the UK.
I often think similar things especially during the Aussie summer when we are sweltering and my sister is shovelling snow in the US. Lovely, lovely piece.
"Fish struggling in shallow waters" is a great image of desperate heat. A vivid poem.
Sunstroke migraine: ouch! Sure you don't prefer the rain?
It reads like one long sigh to me. Wonderful.
I love the sun-blonded hair! And the whole poem, actually!
There are all kinds of Summers.....I just trying to loose track of time.
One really gets a sense of the dryness and hotness in this - a bit like here at the moment and no rain expected for at least another two weeks.
Such imagery this generates. Wonderful!
This takes me right back to those Edinburgh "summers"... I remember one year when the rest of the country was melting in the heat and Edinburgh was blanketed in a month of sea-fog!
the contrasts here are nice, as are the examples you've given of extreme heat!
too much and too little...
great contrast in this wonderful poem
Great contrasts. I'd like a few weeks in your neck of the woods as an escape from the heat and smoke in mine!
I had a sunstroke migraine about a fortnight ago, after one hot day. It gave me a reminder not to stay out in the sun for so long. x
Yeah, gentle sunshine would be nice.
the two together play sweet
I love your juxtaposition between the desire of sunshine and the knowledge of the damage it can do.
Ooh, I've been stuck in rain, but I love the rain.
ah, i love this one. short and sweet. i feel the same way, when its raining, i dream of sunshine; when its sunny, i long for the rain.
a beauty reflecting a destructive hot heat under the umbrella of rain drenched summer... awesome!!!
I'm imagining California versus England.
i like it! it's the poetic opposite of "when it rains, it pours" :-) while making a similar point.
the most vivid line for me is "wildfires raging in tinder dry forests"
Lovely poem. Are you having another wet summer? I thought after last year it was time for a sunny one.
