Union Canal
We had a lovely walk along the Union Canal today. Many of the flowers are fruiting or seeding now. I love the way you can see the individual 'peas' in the pods of this tufted vetch
the meadow vetchling also is in pod now
but there are still a lot of flowers in bloom, these are in the wildflower meadow in Harrison Park, next to the Union Canal
and the insects are still enjoying the blooms, like this hoverfly
and this bumble bee
Meanwhile the mallard ducklings are almost grown up now
and if you look closely you can see the green coming into the heads of the young males (though admittedly this could equally be an adult male regaining his breeding plumage after the summer eclipse (moult period).

how long must it be since i saw peas in a pod.
Lovely photos, Juliet, and I particularly love the one of the colourful flowers. I'm wondering if the blue flowers are cornflowers, one of my real favourites? Your Crafty Green (well, blue!) drawstring bag came on another expedition with me today to a family party. It has been much admired on its various outings! So grateful!
Pretty - everything here is going to seed to now ... lots of farm harvesting of grain and veggy crops. Soon - sweet corn!
TexWis - yes very pretty and we were delighted to see them as its the first year of this wildflower meadow
Gerald - certainly see peas in a pod less frequently than years ago
Caroline yes the blue flowers are cornflowers, I should have listed all the flowers.... Glad your bag is still useful
Rabbits Guy - yes, it's harvest time
Look how the back of that duck is just luminous.
