Water of Leith
I took these photos today at the Water of Leith weir near the Galleries of Modern Art.
We saw our first redwing of the autumn and the goosanders are back on the river for the winter!

Great photos, and I visited the site for the gooseanders, splendid birds...A mixture of goose and gander? I diddn't know the name.
Hi Tommasso, I don't know why they're called goosanders, they're a member of the sawbill family along with mergansers...
Lovely images, Juliet! The goosanders must be related to our mergansers I see here. They are neat birds to see, I hope you are having a great weekend!
is that early for redwings?
I love those birds, and the fieldfares too! how exciting :)
Hi Annette - maybe a wee bit early, but apparently huge flocks have already been seen in some places, so they're definitely arriving now!
We have both redwings and fieldfares in our fields again Juliet - although there are scant berries for them to eat so I fear they will not stay long.
