Landscape Art in the Snow
We walked along part of the Water of Leith today, up to Stockbridge. We stopped at the Gallery of Modern Art for a warm drink. The lawn at the front of the building was landscaped to a design by Charles Jencks to create Landform Ueda. This is a lovely piece of landscape art that I like more every time I see it. It looked particularly fine this morning with the snow and winter sun casting subtle shadows over it. If you click on the photo you will see the two crows that seem to be exploring the artwork.

wouldnt it be so utterly incredible if every home - as a condition of ownership - had to have some earth art installation on its grounds, no matter how tiny! have a peaceful day. steven
Love view and I love how you called it landscape snow art - perfect name!
... See the "Bubbles"
Marvelous, snowy winter capture! I love it! And it is definitely snow art!
Have a great weekend!
Looks like one blackbird is about to launch off on skis! Wonderful photo... and all we have icy drizzle!
Oh, yes! What a great shot! The snow makes a nice effect offering contrast and a hint of texture.
It looks like it's been there thousands of years, like an ancient Druid sundial...how very cool!...and thanks for sharing!
It is a beautiful artwork indeed with this "stepped, serpentine-shaped mound complemented by crescent-shaped pools of water". Thanks for sharing the link, I like to watch landscape-garden art too.
Your photo composition is as beautiful as the artwork itself; the houses in the background bring to life the frozen view.
This body of water may be man-made, but it has the look of nature and very organic. The slight snow and massive shadow makes almost for a monochrome look of winter (if you don't look at he buildings in the background). A lovely view!
It's look serene! the crows must indeed be examining it.
I had tea in there a while back, actually early this year when there was ice on the ground and it was rather nice.
The crows have good taste - I'd be struck dumb admiring this beautiful landscape as well. Or maybe their little feet are frozen to the spot.
Have a wonderful Christmas.
This reminds me of a speed-skating rink. What a fantastic work of art. You have such a good eye, Juliet.
Marvelous snow shadows. We may or may not have some of those next week. I could all wash away in rain.
What a lovely spot - can see why you would want to walk. You've captured a great shadow as well!
Great shot - haven't been there in ages, so must go back soon. I love outdoor art installations - especially if there is hot drinks and cake available too.
Wonderful ... well worth embiggening! Thanks for sharing ;-)
Hugs and blessings,

Ooops ... it should say My Shadow Shots
Hugs and blessings,
This is a lovely, crisp scene. Thanks for pointing out the crows. I always enjoy them! They may be wondering how they're going to get a drink of water.
That's a lovely winter scene.
That is beautiful!
My first time participating
It looks so peaceful!
I hope the birds have there little snow-boots on ... the tracks did not look like it!!!
Have a great ShadowShotSunday
That really looks beautiful and very creative !
Lovely photo - and the crows just add a nice contrast to all the white!
I love the subtlety of the shadows in the top photo. It seems to me that winter's version of beauty in general is different than the other three seasons, and to appreciate it and feel content in the winter we have to approach it on its terms (subtlety, slowing down, etc.) rather than our fast-paced 21st century human terms. Thanks, Juliet, for consistently helping me be more intimate with the natural world.
Gorgeous, but cold-looking, landscape snow art.
I enlarged the photo and saw the crows, but what I really liked was the contrast of the old building in the background (museum?) with the more modern design of the landscape.
This is a striking photo!
What a lovely scene for the holidays, dusted with snow and so still.
crows are always exploring - the snow here is thickening.
I love the gallery of modern art. We go there quite often when we visit Andy's Mum. I like the earthwork and it does look good in the snow. Love the crows exploring!
Wonderful shadow on winter.
My SSS can be found here. Merry Christmas!
Wonderful shadow shot!
A very lovely place to walk, Crafty! This is particularly beautiful! Happy Holidays to you and yours! :)
What intriguing shadows and artwork! I really love the glimpse of houses in the background, too. Just a lovely view.
How lovely! We will have to pass this on to our landscaper friends!
