Yesterday was cold and bright, a return to traditional October weather for Edinburgh. Crafty Green Boyfriend and I went for a walk in the Hermitage of Braid. We started as we usually do at Blackford Pond
Where the Rosebay Willow Herb was catching the low Autumnal light beautifully
Ivy is in bloom at the moment which offers a wonderful feast for the insects that are still around. We saw several Red Admiral Butterflies basking in the sun, enjoying the Ivy flowers and also this Comma butterfly
It wasn't just butterflies enjoying the ivy either, the hoverflies were there too, including this Marmalade Hoverfly (Syrphus balteatus)
We passed Blackford Hill, where this Silver Birch is looking lovely in its autumnal colours
and Midmar Paddock, which feels like an integral part of this local nature reserve, but is actually privately owned and likely to be built on in the near future (to find out more about the fight to save Midmar Paddock, visit this website).
Finally, we walked through the Hermitage of Braid, set in a valley and surrounded by trees
A lovely weekend walk!
