Arthur's Seat

Yesterday morning was mild and sunny, perfect autumn weather for a walk round Edinburgh's Arthur's Seat, one of our favourite places for a weekend stroll.

We caught sight of a Kestrel being mobbed by two Carrion Crows, click on the photo below for a closer look

We got a much closer look at one of the Carrion Crows

Everything looked particularly sharply focussed in the bright light

Later in the day it started raining and in fact is still raining as I type. We need the rain, but it was certainly lovely to be able to enjoy the sunshine yesterday morning.

Shared for Nature Notes.

Arthur's Seat has always fascinated me as an ancient extinct volcano sitting right in the heart of Edinburgh. Seeing a kestrel dodge crows over a landscape with millions of years of history must have been such a thrilling moment. I would love to climb up there myself one day to feel that crisp autumn breeze looking over the city.

Very nice photographs.
You were so fortunate to be able to enjoy the good Autumn weather before the rain came.

All the best Jan

Interesting to see a kestrel get mobbed by crows, they usually leave them alone here but go like mad at buzzards

I agree Simon, it's much more common to see Buzzards getting mobbed

Hi Melody, we've also got remnants of ancient volcanoes at Calton Hill and Castle Rock!

That does look very dry! We have some crows being chased by a group of little sparrows. Not sure if they attack eggs of other birds. Can't think what else it could be?

Yes crows would take the eggs or small chicks of other birds.
