One of my favourite sights in the plant world in spring! The long dangly catkins are the males, the discreet but rather beautiful red catkin (just above the three males) is a female.
I would love to see those. Our trees are beginning to bloom here, but I fear that in yesterday's windy tornado weather, many of the blossoms may be blown away now.
Juliet...I took down the linky to Nature Notes because some folks were linking late and not being visited because the link goes up on Wednesdays..But I can add this post to this weeks NN if this is the right one..or let me know which post it is...Michelle

I didn't know about the female catkin. Interesting!
Just to let you know that the bird cake kit arrived today! :)
Thanks for the pick-me-up! Spring stuck up her head here a week ago and tucked it right back in for awhile!
One of my favourites, too, Juliet. The hazel is heavy with catkins around here, just now.
... and she, then, the flower. _m

So delicate and lovely.
Hi there - I can remember one year finding these before Christmas! That was many, many years ago!
Not really a common tree here!

Delicate, sweet looking catkins!
Thanks for sharing this lovely plant. I had to google info on the Catkin. It is a new plant for me, love the dangling flowers.
