Figgate Park

Crafty Green Boyfriend and I had a lovely walk round Figgate Park at the weekend.

The pond is covered in pond weed at the moment which makes for some interesting photos, though I'm not sure how good it is for the wildlife.

The flower meadows were still in bloom

There were also good numbers of insects including this beautiful looking rosemary beetle that posed for Crafty Green Boyfriend's camera

Rosemary beetles can become pests and if they appear in your garden, it's probably best to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't take over though they're not so bad that you need to immediately do anything about them.

If you see rosemary beetles in the UK, the Royal Horticultural Society would like to know where they are. You can find out more and take part in their survey here.

I enjoyed your photos of ducks and flowers. Beetles are always welcome to my garden. They are so beautiful and rare that I never thought of them as a threat.

Beautiful flowers and waterfowl. We get what we call Japanese beetles that attack our roses. I've learned to have a jar of soapy water available and I knock the beetles into the jar with a stick to drown them. If they are crushed they give off a scent that attracts more beetles.

Shiju - I love beetles too! But some non-native beetles (these rosemary beetles are non-native in Scotland)can become problems if they appear in large numbers. Some non-native species have caused huge amounts of damage to native species in many countries.

almtsbb - thanks for visiting

Pat - it's useful to have quick and safe methods of removing pests if they need to be removed.
