It's a lovely warm sunny day out there today. We had a walk round Arthur's seat, enjoying the quiet paths amongst the gorse bushes
We were delighted to see this dark edged bee fly near St Margaret's Loch
The Loch itself was full of birds, mostly mallards, mute swans, tufted ducks and black headed and herring gulls.
Meanwhile, the grey herons are starting to nest in the trees around Duddingston Loch, you can see several of their large, messy nests in the photo below
Yesterday, Crafty Green Boyfriend captured our local friendly robin on camera, feeding from my hand

That is one smart robin!
We have loads of birds in our garden but I haven't persuaded any of them to eat out of my hand yet! I sometimes think they stand looking plaintively into the kitchen window when the feeders are empty but I might be imagining it!
The robin is something else!!
From my experience with Gorse in Bandon, Oregon, paths along it are fine but paths amongst it can be nasty!!
Here where I live we have the largest blue heron rookery on the west coast of the 48 states - 400 or more nests - and I have often been able to join the crew in December that goes in to count them. Fascinating it is ... such rickety stick nests and some always blow down in winter winds and then get rebuilt, a little bit added each year!
The Robin knows a good person when he sees one! Beautiful walk.

Carruthers - my parents used to have a blackbird that would hop right up to the kitchen door when it was the usual time that they'd feed the birds!
Rabbits' Guy - yes you definitely don't want to walk too close to gorse! It must be amazing to live as close to a heronry
