It has turned sharply colder here--more seasonal. Too bad in a way, because it's been nice not to have to worry about snowy roads. You may have a cold snap yet. The top photo--are they mushrooms? They look like rounds of turkey lunch meat! I love the snow drops.

Your snowdrops are earlier than our. There are lots of large brown toadstools in the New Forest woods this month. Very unseasonal. Very strange......

I guess not! We have had an unusual year, too, but winter finally caught up with us.

Gorse is beautiful, but here in New Zealand it is a pest plant as the milder climate means it grows too rampant.

Not typical here either. Too warm. Daffodils are preparing to bloom.

Looks like you had a very nice walk!

Juliet, It is not a "normal" winter here either, at least until yesterday when the skies shook out some snow and ice. But we'll apparently be back to warmer weather soon. IN the meantime, enjoyed your photos, especially the "gorse" - I LOVE that word.

I wish I could help you with the mushroom, but I can't see enough identifiable features.

This January is taking some getting used to although we have a few cold days until mid week. It all makes me worried about the implications this can have in so many ways.Lovely photos although wrong for the season, don't you just love the yellow of the gorse?

We are having a few days of snow. On Sunday morning as it started to fall, the birds were still out singing.
