10 for 10

Green
is my favourite colour
the colour of fields, of the trees

in my parents' suburban garden
I was too scared to climb
though I liked to draw them

a skill useful in college Botany
though what I learned outside class
was as interesting as the lessons

so when I taught biology in Malawi
I also lead wildlife walks
and directed a play

when I returned to the UK
I joined a local drama group
and realised I couldn't act

but I could write so wrote a play
then found poetry suited me better
so that's what I did

between volunteering and looking for
work, which was a harder search
than it should have been

then finding work in fact the biggest
disappointment in my life
though it pays enough

for me to buy all the second hand
books I want to fill
the shelves of the flat

that I share with the love of my life
and the ghost of our rabbit
and where I can be crafty and green!

The Unskilled Poet challenged me with the 10 for 10 meme - write ten verses about yourself and then challenge 10 other bloggers! So there's my attempt and I tag:
Jo (Florescence), Rethabile (Poefrika), Clare (Clare's Sunflower Sky), Brian (Truth is Freedom), Rose (Live and Laugh), Gautami (Rooted), Deb and Whirling Dervish (Stoney Moss), Abzdragon (A G33k Tragedy), Mike (Word Anger) and you! And don't worry, if you don't want to, you can pass...

So well knit together, very fluid and interesting.....thanks for the tag, though it may take me a day or two :)

Very nice verses. Thanks for the tag. I'll give it a go, though it may not be immediately. What's harder is finding 10 people to tag, innit?

POlona - yes I know you don't do memes, don't worry, thanks for reading!

Jo - thanks, I look forward to erading your response!

Rethabile - exactly, I often don't pass memes on, but i liked this one and hadn't seen it before so finding 10 people wasn't as difficult as it ccould have been! Good luck and I look forward to reading your poem!

Wow!! I love the beginning of this poem... it flows really well from beginning to end!! Thanks for the tag, I will definitely be doing it... but it may take a day or so... :)

I like that so much. I am amazing myself by my latent fondness of poetry of all types lately.

I love putting the word "green" in poem. Blue is another favorite. I wrote this today:
A blue ink spilled sky
A spending spree of color
Lakes of lawn shimmer green

I guess I'm thinking about spring already.

Hi Crafty! Thanks for the tag -- I've got a busy week, but I will work on it -- it sounds like fun. I love your verses -- they flow beautifully and I love how "green" starts and ends it all. Really nice.

Very nice, Crafty! The flow is really unusual but works brilliantly :)

I think I will do it. I don't mind writing poetry. Other kind of meme, I seldom do. But on books and poetry, I can't resist.

Thanks.

I loved knowing about you via verse. Do you know, we have many things in common?

You already chose the 10, I would have chosen.!!

LOL!

What a lovely prompt, I'd love to give it a try. (It'll take a little longer than two days for me :-) and yes, Rethabile, finding 10 more to tag will take me a while.)

I do like what you have done with this. It's a great rounding of a lovely person's life, so succint, yet musical!

Green is also my favourite colour. I love to see it, wear it, decorate with it. I can imagine your place and all your books. It's just as I thought it would be. How lovely!

Thanks for thinking of me Crafty.

I did it! This was a hard one, and I'm sorry to say that I cheated by only including 5 facts--but it was a good way to think about rather mundane facts in a more interesting way.

You know what I'm like with these memes and things, hopeless that's why i usually avoid them, but this one was cool, i read someone's and then went round and read another few, got a real idea for the people, what they were trying to achieve with their writing and so forth, so thanks, i went round a circle and ended up here, which is always a good place to be,

I did it...it's not as well formed as your and WD's poems, but it was fun, and a challenge, too!

deb's 10 x 10 poem.
