What beautiful blossom. I was recalling in our poetry cafe last night how we would learn and recite 'The Cherry Tree' by Housman in my junior school. We also had a maypole... It seems a long time ago!

lovely. The cherry blossoms (sakura) are in full bloom in southern Hokkaido this week, and just beginning in Sapporo. People in southern Japan had theirs almost two months ago already, and lots of tour groups bring cherry blossom-lovers northward, catching the blossoms at each stage of their northward march, finally ending up in northern Hokkaido at the end of May. Everything this season is sakura-flavored this, and sakura-colored that. The salted leaves of the tree have flavor and aroma, while the blossoms are used for decoration and color. I had a guest yesterday who arrived in a sakura-colored car! (sort of dusky pink) Sometimes I wonder if any other country turns cherry blossoms into so much business as Japan does.

Hi Debbie - We watched a TV show about sakura in Japan, it was very interesting to see all the sakura flavoured and coloured food items!
