Antony Gormley reflects on the Water of Leith

Six cast iron figures, moulded by the sculptor Antony Gormley have been placed near and along the Water of Leith. This one is near the Gallery of Modern Art (there's also another in the grounds of the art gallery, another four along the river and one at Leith Docks). I really like the way it's been positioned, it doesn't seem at all intrusive. I hope the wildlife agrees!

They have caused a bit of a stir and some of them have been dressed in t-shirts to cover their modesty!

I recently discovered another Edinburgh based blogger who likes to walk along the Water of Leith. You can see Debbie's wonderful photos at her blog dfgphotography.

I love Anthony Gormley's work and some of his ideas. The statues look wonderful. It will be interesting to see how the metal fares against the water. It is a permanent installation? xJ

Very interesting. When you mentioned cast iron I didn't immediately realize that they must be painted.

I too had to look twice - it looked like a real person standing there. A great picture of a beautiful work of art.

Well, he's just skinny dipping. Just another element of the environment.

I also had to look twice before enlarging the photo to see if it was a real human. If that were placed in a stream here, there would be a huge uproar, no doubt.

I really like Gormley's work. I, too, am wondering how the cast iron will weather.

I really enjoy Gormley's work, these figures are great fun, some people are funny aren't they.... dressing them in tshirts!!

This is great. You made me smile by telling us some people have dressed this sculpture and the other five. :)

Tee shirts indeed! Some people are simply silly. Nice shot.

This is a great shot of the Gormley! Where was it taken exactly? I found the Stockbridge one but couldn't get a decent angle from up on the street. I'll probably have to go down by the river to get the shot.

I'll have to pick your brains about Water of Leith as you seem to know a bit about it and I'm just discovering it's wonders.

Speaking of Gormley, have you visited Jupiter Artland? It has some really interesting sculptures, including one by Gormley.

Thanks for linking to my blog! :-)

Oh, sorry I didn't notice you'd already mentioned where this Gormley is. That's right near my work so I might visit soon!!
