after the snow -
a mixed flock of finches

Lovely image - one was singing in the fog here yesterday, happy as can be .
I adore your winter haiku Juliet - I could immediately picture the cat looking for warmth. Excellent!

I agree - a very nice image, indeed. I especially like the suggestion of liveliness emerging after a period of retreat. "Mixed flock of finches" is a very effective phrase.

After our big snow a huge flock of Pine Siskens ... almost ate us out of house and home.

There is a semi-historical book - A Gathering of Finchs - about a very young lady at the turn of the 19th century who goes to live on the southern coast of Oregon with the young heir of the Simpson Timber Company .. he had a large family and she described visiting them as A Gathering of Finchs .. must have been a lot of chatter! The Simpsons left a beautiful park there - Shore Acres.

So much stems from so little.

You don't waste words, you fill them with more.

'Mixed flock' - so many possibilities in that. Of course, here in southern India, finding migratory Rosefinches is itself a magical moment. But we have our own little seed-crushers - tiny finches we call munias. Among them, the Red Munia (Amandava amandava) is the most gorgeous. The male is a study in scarlet, with a speckling of white and black. The female is duller, with a signature red rump and tail.

Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving a comment.
