Turnstones

dusk

turnstones scurry
grey white movement
against grey white pebbles

the shush of the sea

the skirr of stones
turned by probing beaks

Inspired largely by the lovely bird, the turnstone, which we saw on the coast at Oban, and partly by this post on obscure words on Write Anything

Your charming poem led me to the Write Anything blog. What fun I had with that post.

I enjoy your blog.
Be well, Ron

It is a great poem - a good example of how two inspirations can rub together to kindle something fresh.

I like the repeat of "grey white" and also the use of the word "skirr" - you have created a scene in my mind.

This is a lovely poem about these delightful little birds. We have the Ruddy Turnstone here as well as the black one.

Cool imagery. Besides writing, you teach nature.

They're such lovely birds, and this is so evocative of them.

Great sounds in this one. And they are often a challenge for me. I love the 'shush' especially.
