Cleaning the Water of Leith

I went along to the Water of Leith today to join in a clean up. This replaced my patrol walk this week. There were 18 volunteers to gather litter up and downstream from the Water of Leith Visitor Centre. The weather was dull with a fair amount of rain, the river was running very high and it was muddy and wet underfoot. We gathered a lot of litter and were rewarded afterwards with tea and shortbread! There is a sponsored walk along the full length of the river on Sunday, if you're in Edinburgh, you can just turn up at 10.30am on Sunday, in Balerno, more information on the Trust website here.

The weather is so wet that the roofer hasn't yet been able to put up our swift nestboxes but we are hoping they can go up tomorrow!

You've been busy today. This morning it was rainy here but the sun has since come out and stayed awhile. Here's hoping you can get your swift nestboxes up tomorrow. Have a great weekend.

Nice job. At least a small piece of land became cleaner. Have a green day :)

A lovely contact with nature - love the wildflower header!

Tea and shortbread always taste better after doing something like that I think.

We had hot weather yesterday. Makes for beautiful evenings, miserable days at work.

A great job done. The reward of tea and shortbread made it all the more worthwhile, considering you were probably cold, damp, or worse still soaking wet! Whenever my Dad goes for a walk, he takes a carrier bag with him to pick up litter. Not being so organised, I usually forget! x

this is my patch - whenever I walk along the river i collect rubbish, at other times I tend not to be organised enough!

Michelle - the swift nestboxes will need to wait for drier weather I'm afraid....

Deb - yes definitely do taste better that way!

Ricardas, Kay - thanks
