Hoverflies enjoying the last of the summer

It's a lovely sunny day today. As I often do on a Friday, I joined Crafty Green Boyfriend for a walk round Corstorphine Hill. We stopped at a rose bush on the way to admire the hoverflies, there were several Syrphus sp

a couple of Eristalis sp, including this Eristalis pertinax

and a Helophilus sp (often referred to as the sun fly as it likes sunshine, also known as the footballer because of its patterning)

We enjoyed the view from the hill across Edinburgh

and the dappled light in the woodland on the hill

Always lovely to see the pink coloured rose, and the hoverflies do seem to like them too!

I enlarged your images ... the view across Edinburgh, all that lovely green in the middle was lovely. Also the way the light dappled through in your last image was very nice to see.

Have a great weekend

All the best Jan

I will bet this is the second time the rose has bloomed this summer. We are getting another round of blossoms now that the days are cooler.

That dappled light is lovely.

Another lovely Friday walk. Such beautiful photos of the rose and the hoverflies. As we have extremely warm September weather there are still so many bumblebees and butterflies around.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hi,

I don't know if you remember me, but I wrote from 2006-2012 as Hummingbunny on my blog and wrote poetry and other things. I wrote the 'Scottish Spring' sestina for you. Anyway, most of the bloggers and writing prompts are gone now, but I started up writing and posting poetry again in July of this year. I'm glad to see you are still writing.

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments, hoverflies aren't bees, they're flies that mimic other insects, usually bees or wasps

Gorgeous photos. I was recently in 35-37 degrees temperatures every single day with a humidity of 90% (Cuba) so I say, roll on autumn! :-)

Greetings from London.
