Ivy Shadows

Ivy has a shadowy side, although birds love it as a place to build their nests in spring and to roost in the winter, it can damage trees, though I recently read that the effect isn't as bad as we had been lead to believe in the past. These cherry blossom trees look slightly uncomfortable though.

for Shadow Shot Sunday.

I don't think I've ever seen ivy entwined around a cherry tree before.

Wow-I've never seen ivy growing in trees in THAT manner! Usually it is something so big, that the ivy growing on it isn't a big deal.
Nice!

Shadows are like the soul of each living thing that follows it around.

I know so little about Ivy, and see it around here even less. I'm stimulated by your comments and photos.

actually English Ivy has now been declared an invasive plant in the state of Oregon. It chokes a living tree until it dies. It's best to strip the tree of the ivy if possible...otherwise just cut the ivy away from the bottom of the tree.

Alas, the ivy does tent to choke many a tree or shrub. Yet, the underside shadows are beautifully defined, a hint of art under a strong sun. What nature has wrought is an almost climbing weed - a pest perhaps, but a beautiful thing too...Happy Easter!

Hi Juliet,

I have ivy covering one of our olive trees - it really does take over.
Happy weekend

Lovely sharp ivy shadows. yes. I am wary of ivy twined round trees. Not easy to remove either.

I have mixed feelings about ivy. We should have removed some from the house wall this winter, but now it has several nests hidden away inside so that will have to wait.

How interesting Juliet. The shadows take on more importance than the leaves/
