Haiku - dusk

Wolves howl at the moon
their cries echo into space -
the first soft snowfall.
.........................................................................................
Thick blue silk of dusk
hangs over the sleepy town -
a saxophone plays.

These are both lovely.
I especially like the second one; I'm a suck for good jazz, especially sax, plus your images are terrific.

Mmm, these are lovely and the kind of haiku I aspire to write...

Oooh, these are both nice. Good thing I don't have to choose.

I read a lot of Japanese haiku during my Japan phase. I feel as if you really get the form. Your third lines play off the first two so nicely.

First thing that struck me was the killer contrast between wolves and soft snow. Nice job. Thanks for stopping by my place (on a snowy evening -- couldn't help adding that). I wish you a happy 2007...

No wolves around here, or snow very often. I love the second one particularly. And thanks for spotting the typo on my Poetry Thursday post - I fixed it up, the "d" is right next to the "s" on the keyboard :)
I've left comments on a couple of your other posts, too

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Novel nymph, I'm touched that you aspire....

My backyard, I'm always pleased when people say I'm getting the Japanese type form of haiku, that's what i aspire to!!!

Thanks Catherine, I made a long comment back on one of your other comments.
