Oh, how sad Juliet - keep meaning to say how I love your horse chestnut flower on your header - I look forward to seeing them every year - I love the pink ones but really that cream one on your header takes some beating.
I always recall seeing a single Puffin off Strumble Head, Fishguard - and thinking it must be a plastic decoy Puffin (a whole lot of plastic ones were installed to encourage real Puffins to join them) that had floated off from Ramsey Island ... but then it dived!
this haiku has kick. wonderful poem. and, i thoroughly enjoyed the film Adrift by Alastair using your poem. i think you have a beautiful reading voice. lastly, the lily is refreshing to tired eyes. hope all is well. have a great weekend.
Beautiful poem!! This is lovely. I don't know if you'd be interested in seeing it republished, but we would be happy to put this up on Haiku News. We'd just have to find a news article, but I am sure that wouldn't be hard.
Anyway - whether or not you wanna republish, this is a stellar poem.
We recently took an evening stroll in our downtown Big Spring Park near our convention center. There is currently remodeling of the convention center and the art museum in the park is expanding--what a mess. The park area is quite nice and has open grassy treed areas along with paved walkways along the creek that flows from the spring through that part of the downtown area. This, too, was revamped in the past few years to "improve" that area of town when a new parking garage and another convention hotel were built. I was delighted to observe a yellow crowned night heron doing some night fishing, a muskrat swimming along the paved portion of the channel near the fountain, and a tiny, banded water snake slipping into the water near the hotel.

ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm pleased to say we have a flock of Canada geese that gather by our village pond!
ReplyDeleteSooooo succinct and punchy, CGP.

I made an unbidden mental leap to the container of plastic ducks that escaped to the oceans, turning up all over the globe.

ReplyDeleteWhat a powerful poem. I'm always impressed at how much you can say in so few words. The plastic hurts my heart. It is so true!
ReplyDeleteI really like this thought-provoking haiku.
