everything glows in the low light of winter

One of my favourite things about this time of year is the beautiful light when the sun is low in the sky, which is pretty much all day just now..... Here are some photos from Musselburgh today.

This is the point where I always think the John Muir Walkway officially starts, when the tarmac runs out and you're on a dirt track. Nowadays though the route of the walkway runs all through Musselburgh and Edinburgh to the west of Scotland.

If you look closely you can see there are lots of birds (specially gulls of various species) at the mouth of the River Esk.
The mosses and lichens glow in the sunlight!
The water of the Firth of Forth was beautiful today

The clouds started to gather in though

although it didn't rain while I was out!

You are right about the light. And, aren't we glad to see it?

Probably common scoters and wigeon on the water

Wasn't the light today just fabulous, we need to make the most of it before Storm Barbara comes our way!

Take Care

All the best Jan

Hi Somin, on the water there - definitely wigeon, also goldeneye (though not necessarily in the photo) but very unlikely common scoter, they don't like that place, they only congregate further down the coast. Velvet scoter possibly, though I only saw them further down the coast.

Hi Juliet,

The light in winter is beautiful and love the clouds.
Hope you are enjoying the week

I might be able to handle winter if the sky was as blue as yours is. Beautiful light indeed! (In the Pacific Northwest, winter is rather gray... gets depressing. Hence, we are in Florida in the sunshine)..... Merry Christmas.

I guess that sun is as low in the midday sky as it gets! Makes for most interesting views.
