It's an Edinburgh tradition to walk round Arthurs Seat, Salisbury Crags and Holyrood Park on New Years Day. The area was very crowded today, though less so in the hidden valley in the middle of Arthur's Seat
We enjoyed the chill in the still air and were happy it wasn't raining, though it was very muddy underfoot in places. We saw quite a lot of birds especially on St Margaret's Loch.
This handsome male was obviously in charge, pecking aggressively at all the younger swans and some of the adults too.

Happy New Year. The walk sounds like a lovely New Year tradition (here it is raining as it's been doing since summer, it seems).
I was out finding ducks I've never seen before on the lake!
Looks like a good start to the new year. Glad it wasn't raining. Happy New Year!
Everybody out and about here too - so many wintering birds. Beautiful, chilly, clear day.
