I had a lovely walk along the Water of Leith yesterday. The weather was clear and bright but very cold with a lot of paths still icy from the day before. There were good numbers of birds around, including two herons, which are one of the few birds i ever try to take photos of, they're big and slow moving so make ideal subjects! Here are just a few photos to give a flavour of the day.
I'll be offline for a few days now, back next week!

That bottom shot is so pretty. I like frost on moss.
Lovely photos, especially the bottom one. Enjoy your time offline.
I love the heron in rushing river water.
Take care in the wild winds that are forecast for you tomorrow!
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Great photos - esp the third one - see you soon
Brrrr...look cold but very pretty.
lovely photos J
I love herons too. I always imagine, when I see one flying, that that must be what pterodactyls were like.
I expect you're offline because you've been blown away. We have!

thank you for sharing with us; enjoy your time out
much love...
Winter is certainly here too. Hard enough frost yesterday that it never melted in the shade. Yesterday I was down on the boardwalk and a heron flew right in front of me. They are such incredible birds...
We have so many herons - they're my favorite water bird, I think. And they are photogenic, partly because they're willing to pose!
I've been reading of the horrid weather - hope it didn't affect you badly.
I am always entranced by herons as they are strange birds rather mysterious as if they are keeping some big secret. Lovely photos.
