Lauriston Castle

It is Edinburgh Doors Open Day today (and it continues tomorrow, a chance to see inside loads of Edinburgh's famous buildings, many of which are not normally open to the public!). We visited Lauriston Castle, but though the castle was open all day, access was only by pre-booked guided tours so we couldn't get in! However, the weather was gorgeous and the Castle Grounds are wonderful so we enjoyed a pleasant walk instead. We particularly enjoyed the (relatively) new Japanese Garden, opened in 2002, which combines features of Japanese and western gardens. Beautiful sunshine and photogenic shadows everywhere! I also wrote two haiku today, which I've posted to the Autumn Haiku blog here. I also posted another Shadow Shot to my Over Forty Shades blog, which you can see here.

What a great shadow shot! I've always been awed by the architecture/castles that I've been able to visit during my travels. This brought back lovely memories of some of my trips. Marvelous post!

Have a great weekend!

Excellent shadow shot. Sorry you didn't get into the castle. Sounds like a great visit to the grounds, however. Wish we had castles to visit here in the U.S.

The castle gives a complex medieval shape to the wonderfully manicured grounds. The gardens are beautiful Someday. it would be a pleasure to visit the land of the Scot. The green all around the isle is spectacular!

Your post is surely inviting. I have never visited your part of the world and your site shows such possibilities of seeing and experiencing interesting places.

Luscious green, subtle strong shadows, reminds of the day at Victoria Gardens, laying on the ground and taking a shot of the green grass and strong big tree in the background, all shot in ground level. Thanks for sharing and have a great day :)

What a great shadow, one I am unlikely to capture here in the States. I'm sorry you didn't get to visit inside but your shots were well worth the visit anyway.

Nice pictures. I especially liked the castle!

Saturday in the USA was Museum Day, which is like Open Doors Day for museums. But we had so much else to do, we didn't have time to take advantage of it.
