Tanka

by the roadside
a dead male blackbird lies
with open beak -
tomorrow's dawn chorus
will be a singer short.

  7. One less to sing, hopefully all the others will sing louder to make up for the loss.

  8. Oh, a sad bit on Tanka, but on the other hand, nice that there's your poem to honor him.
Today, we noted that one of the squirrels that visits the ground beneath our sunflower seed feeder has only one eye. I refused to believe Husband; had to use the zoom on my camera to verify and then was somewhat horrified. Surely, though, if you ask little "Uno" as we have now named him, he would just look at you with his good eye and say something like "what are you talking about? I'm fine. I'm here and really enjoying these seeds."

This made me cry, Juliet. It is beautifully written. I have seen it so many times *sob*

  11. The trouble with blackbirds Juliet is that they will fly very low over the road just as one is driving past and sometimes it is impossible to avoid them. Sad though.
