We visited Gorgie City Farm on Saturday. Ebony the newest bunny there was the only one we could see, though we suspect the others were working at the children's party that was going on in the Education Centre. The farm are doing a lot of work with the rabbits at the moment to properly integrate them all. The rabbits form two rival gangs - Daisy and her daughter Sugar team up with Driftwood against Louie and Lily. Ebony came along and wasn't accepted by either of the groups. Staff have already spent six months trying to integrate them all into one group, but its not happening so far..... Crafty Green Boyfriend took this photo of Ebony preparing for take off....
At the farm we were sad to learn that Red, the horse, has been very ill and cannot be fed by members of the public.
All the animals at Gorgie City Farm are available for sponsorship. You can pay a set amount every year to go towards the animals' upkeep and in return you get a certificate and photo and news of your sponsored animal. You can found out more here.
Strange to think of bunny gangs....
ReplyDeleteThe oldest group of children at the school I work at now have a rabbit. He is so sweet and much loved.
ebony has the correct name as he blends into his surroundings. i didn't even see him until i enlarged the photo. him being beside that log camouflaged him well. that rooster seems pretty happy too. was he digging for food? hope all is well. have a great day.
ReplyDeletePoor Ebony, left out of both bunny clubs!
ReplyDeleteRabbits are very territorial and very aggressive so I completely understand why he is alone.
ReplyDeleteWesley and Arabella fought and were immediately separated - fighting can be fatal and an injury from fighting can lead to serious consequences. It is just one of those things - personality conflicts. Sometimes over time it lessens and a bond can form if the rabbits decide to accept each other.
Read your older post - did you know mice have an aversion to peppermint oil? Use the concentrated oils that go in the candle heated water dishes (what on earth are they called??!) but just put a few drops around the mice area to put them off. Maybe even leave a rag soaked in it on the corners and skirting too?
Is this an inner city farm?
ReplyDeleteDeb G - it seems surpprising but yes rabbits do gang up on each other...
ReplyDeleteMichelle - the rooster probably is digging for food, yes
bunnygirl, yes i feel sorry for Ebony too....
Annette - thanks for the advice about peppermint oil, I'll try that one....
Weaver, well Gorgie though quite central, isn't really an inner city area as such, Scottish cities don't have inner cities in the same way as English cities, we have peripheral estates instead.
oh it's so sweet!
ReplyDeleteThis farm looks a cool place indeed and I bet kids and adults can have a great time there!
Adorable post!

I can believe in bunny gangs, the Spots act like thugs! cute, furry, adorable thugs.......
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great place. I went to the Gorgie Farm site and found it very interesting. Sorry to hear that Red has been ill.
ReplyDeleteFunny how the rabbits form their gangs. I am amazed in the spring by all the rabbits that appear in my garden. I've learned that they like weeds as much as cultivated plants so as long as I leave tall grasses and other weeds for them to munch on they leave most of my other plants alone. At least that my excuse for how wild I let my garden get.
That chicken looks like he just landed on the same runway Ebony is using for pre-flight! Clunk ...
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteWe gave you an award on our blog! We hope you like it!

hi crafty green, we have one little bunny who lives with us and i can tell you, she'd be thrilled to know there are gangs of buns out there. her snippy some of the time, and cuddly some of the time approach to life would be well suited to the bunny gang life. steven
ReplyDeleteHi - I've popped over here from Anais' blog. I'll add my surprise to other commentors to discover there are bunny gangs.
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love rabbits, and that looks to be a very fine fat black one! Maybe he will be The Lone Rabbit ~ but I hope he will not be lonely. xo Kari
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so sorry about Red. I hope he feels better soon. The pictures of the bunnies are beautiful. What a great place to visit.
