We went to Tree Fest today, Edinburgh's annual celebration of trees in Inverleith Park, run by the Four Winds Centre. It was drizzly all day but the rain never got heavy enough to drive people away, though there were probably fewer people there than usual. A lovely addition to the event this year was the display of working horses, brought up from Durham in the north of England. There was a lovely Shetland pony and a larger mixed breed working horse, both very friendly and busy demonstrating dragging wood and beating bracken. There were lots of nice wood related things on sale and stalls from environmental charities and lots of nice food stalls, including Bespoke Organic Events, who were also selling our favourite raspberry jam from the Cyrenians Organic Farm. There was a music stage and a beer tent, selling local ales, beer and music next to each other unlike other occasions. We both forgot to take our cameras so no photos, sorry!
Tree Fest continues tomorrow, when it clashes with the Gorgie Farm Fun Day and the Water of Leith Sponsored Ramble.
Sounds like a wonderful event. I'm looking forward to the Hot Balloon Race festival here in a few weeks. It's a relatively new (3rd year) festival where Hot Air Balloons come in from local areas and fly their balloons in a race against each other. There's also food booths, hot air balloon tethered rides and arts/ crafts. I'll take some more pictures this year and try to post them. Glad you had a good time at your festival. Hope you're having a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun, next year remember the cameras :~)
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific idea for a festival. I so love your part of the world! And I think it's terrific how many environmental things you are involved in.
ReplyDeleteA friend od mine is going to tree fest and I've asked him to look out for you.
ReplyDeleteI have made a lot of raspberry jam today, as soon as the raspberries were picked, so it will be nice and fresh - wish I could send you up a jar, Juliet.
ReplyDeletesound like a lot of fun and the fact that there wasn't too much rain to spoil the event, that nice

that sounds like an ace event, definitely. today we are off to a mountain festival ...kind of a celebration of a local mountain organised by various local councils of the tiny villages around it. i think you would like it, if you guys lived a little closer you could have come ;)
ReplyDeleteFun! My grandfather had a Shetland pony when I was young. Some Welsh ponies as well. It's nice to remember them today....
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful way to spend the weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh - shortbread! One of my favorite treats is a box of Walker's shortbread cookies from your neck of the woods. So delicious, we generally polish off the entire box between the grocery store and home!
ReplyDeleteHi Juliette. The tree fest sounds just up my street. You live in such a beautiful place with lots going on. I am always forgetting my camera too. Loved the little piggies in the earlier post.
ReplyDeleteAhhh . . . . I love the frequent outdoor events and heightened sense of community that summer brings. . . it happens on both sides of the pond!
ReplyDeleteRaspberry jam, one of the high points of childhood summers was making it, if I could recreate it it might be one of those Proust madeleine moments!
ReplyDeleteI like to hear about the horses. I looked into some foresstry enterprises round here recently, and was quite surprised how many use horses for part of the work.
Hello from Michigan. Wow, this sounded like a fantastic event. I would of loved to visit and see all the arts and crafts. Hugs Judy
