Rainforest thoughts

In the film The Emerald Forest (1985) - the forest dwellers were concerned that the edge of their forest kept coming closer to their homes.....

In the film, Birdwatchers (2009) - the former forest dwellers reclaim their ancestral homes on what is now endless farmland.....

Sometimes it can feel quite difficult to stay optimistic....... However, we can take action to help the rainforests across the world, one of the most effective methods is to get involved with campaigning with Ecological Internet, who have a very good record of success in preserving rainforests. You can find out more and join in their campaigns on their Rainforest Portal, here.

  1. I am quite pessimistic about the whole thing Juliet - it is always big business and money which win over the inhabitants and their life style and that goes for animals, birds and people. I shall now go and look at that site.

  2. We went to a botanical preserve in Costa Rica where the jungle came back with animals too in just 7 years of non-cultivation. If humans can get out of the way mother nature can get on with her job.

  3. I'm no longer so pessimistic - I've seen a lot of human creativity lately. It's just a question of motivation, I think! Blogs like this are a great help to encourage people.

  4. If we are too pessimistic then we risk fostering defeatism but I have to say, I know where you are coming from.

    What do you think should be done with our Giant Hogweed, so far I don't think many people have noticed it.

  5. To the Weaver of Grass ... your observation is why I believe that people must do two things at least:

    1st - find your spot where you can make a personal difference and go to work;

    second - join a group that takes on the big money and big business.

  6. Weaver, Elizabeth - I try not to be pessimistic, but as this post says, its difficult sometimes...

    d.moll - Costa Rica seems to be one country that gets it, they do seem to protect their natural resources very well...

  7. Acornmoon - your council should know what to do with the giant hogweed....

    as to defeatism, you're right, that's why overall i do keep this blog optimistic, but I t hink that sometimes one has to admit to the negatives and to feeling pessimistic....

  8. It really is hard to not get pessimistic at times. It's important to show examples like this though. Hopefully it will help demonstrate the impact of the choices that we make and encourage better choices.
