Poetry pocket

This is an experiment in double sided collage. I collected all the natural materials (bark, feathers and elm fruits) from the Water of Leith over the last couple of weeks. The plastic is reused from packaging that came in a gift - pretty tough to sew the two pieces together.... The paper is all reused office waste. The words are descriptive of the woodland along the Water of Leith. They suggest rather than form a poem. The whole thing shifts about a bit, so it changes as you handle it.....

  1. It's rather like all the materials are writing their own poem.

  2. What an interesting idea Juliet - and I love the way Pamela sees it too.

  3. Hmm you get a new poem every time you shake it!

That makes me think of Richard Long, as it’s kind of in the same vein as his art, but your version is more flexible and pocket-sized!

  6. What a clever idea Crafty. Plus you're using recycled products so the natural world will be the safer. I must try this sometime. Have a great night.

  8. Very neato ... reminds me a bit of those kits of little magnetized words you use to wite messages on the refridge! The next guy along rearranges them ...

  10. What a great idea! I love that you can manipulate the words and objects to create new combinations. I've passed this link along to some writing teacher friends. This looks like a good summer camp activity too.

  13. Thank you for commenting on mine! I appreciate that you are one of the few who ever does. I fixed your spelling mistake by the way :)

I was wondering about making the package refillable too, like a ziplock bag, but yet it has to be rigid... if I come up with something I'll let you know...

  15. Oh! I like this. It reminds me of a kaleidoscope in a way. One can remake the poem by shaking it a bit. What fun -- makes my head think in similar ways.
