It's been a bad year for butterflies....

We've had a very wet and dull summer in Scotland and its been a bad year for a lot of butterflies. Apart from for the Comma, seen here, earlier today, on the Wildlife Garden sign at Gorgie Farm. The Comma is spreading pretty rapidly up Scotland. It's a beautiful butterfly, this is only the second I've ever seen. Click on the photo for full effect....

  3. Pretty, gorgeous, love him/her. Can butterflies use umbrellas?

  4. I think it was a bad year here also, but worse for the honeybees. Many plants just didn't get pollinated because of that.

  7. beautiful... i have noticed the decline in the number of butterflies here as well. and we have also had an excessively wet summer apart from the second half of august.

  8. Love the comma c.g.p. We find here in North Yorkshire that over the last week there has been a sudden surge of butterflies after a summer with barely any.

  9. I'm glad you finally got a butterfly -- they're so lovely and the photo is beautiful. I haven't seen as many here in Michigan this year, either. I had to travel to get my butterfly fix!

That must be the problem here, too. We had a wet summer, and about half of our usual butterflies.
Too bad it worked the other way for blackflies and mosquitos.
