Shadows slant over a cobbled courtyard,
bees buzz in scented air,
an orange kitten lounges.
Sunlit statues in the corner
and herbs in terracotta
against an ochre wall.
Behind a wrought iron gate
in a high wall
by an ordinary town path.
not haiku, but still in the moment for Read Write Poem
Nature is always the extraordinary, and it's even more so when we find it in the midst of the ordinary! I love this!
ReplyDeletea little piece of heaven not far from the maddening crowd :)
ReplyDeleteI'm right there! - how could one not be with such beautiful imagery.
ReplyDeleteGood use of haiku form....and wonderful word snapshots of moments.

Sounds like a nice place to spend an afternoon. Great images.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and it has wonderful sounds as well as a beautifully constructed visual tour.
ReplyDeleteHolly - thanks, I agree i love finding nature in ordinary places
ReplyDeletepolona, janice - thanks
nicole - not actually haiku, but thanks
jarod, gingatao - thanks
lovely cozy garden poem. :) a beautiful oasis which is unfortunately hidden from most passers by...
ReplyDeleteNature finds every possible place to thrive in its diversity. Pity we're ignoring this truth of life, and following sameness instead.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful moment. This really provokes the senses.
ReplyDeleteWonderful -- a lovely painting with the orange kitten offering a colorful contrast in the scene.
ReplyDeleteWhat beauty lies hidden behind garden walls. Lovely, uplifting verse.
ReplyDelete...and behind the wall you would make the town vanish.Yes, I can remember that.
ReplyDeleteThis is almost all really lovely and evocative of a special moment
ReplyDeleteThough for some strange reason the orange kitten jarred on me - my mental image was a bit too dayglow! ;) Just my idiosyncracy, I suspect!
Thanks for sharing this lovely moment!
This is wondrous!
ReplyDeleteplunging in the tunneled abyss
Wow, you write about these ordinary but wonderful sights so well!
ReplyDeleteyou have captured it perfectly!
ReplyDeletelovely images! i'm also captivated by the picture of a lounging orange kitten.
ReplyDeleteI can see it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful scene... so peaceful, so warm. (Oh, if only you could be LITERALLY transported through reading! ;) )
ReplyDeletei'm with durablepigments - i wish i could visit!
ReplyDeleteI want to stay in that first stanza. The whole poem comes across to me like a Bonnard painting (especially with that orange cat).
ReplyDeleteI love this.. what a lovely vision it brings to mind!! thanks I enjoyed that very much!! Hugs Linda
ReplyDeleteEven though you said it wasn't in haiku form, but you surely did capture these moments well! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how you carried and transform an image from one stanza to the next. For example, the "orange kitten" from stanza one becomes "sunlit statues". Do you see the parallel/pattern of colors? It's the same with the "ochre wall" (2nd stanza) and the "high wall" with the 3rd stanza.
I don't know if you realized that, but I certainly did! :) Thank you for sharing as I enjoyed this piece!
Also, thank you so much for visiting my poetry journal at Livejournal. :)
Ambiguity Lotus - thanks for noticing the colours - i didn't consciously think of it like that but colour was uppermost in my mind when i saw this and when I wrote it...
ReplyDeleteLirone - I guess it depends on the shade of orange you see!
Anthony - you're right, very true...
