It's time for Big Butterfly Count in the UK! Between Friday 14th July and Sunday 6th August, choose a place to spot butterflies and moths. Watch for 15 minutes and record what you see! You can find out more on the Big Butterfly Count website.
This weekend we spent time in North Merchiston Cemetery and saw a few butterflies including
Speckled Wood, probably the commonest butterfly in the cemetery
Meadow Brown and Small Tortoiseshell
We have recorded these sightings on the Big Butterfly Count website.
We also saw this beautiful moth, which I was able to identify as a Pied Smudge moth
