The Waterfalls of Glen Garry

On our second full day up in the Highlands we went to Glen Garry. a lovely wooded river. As soon as we got there we saw three spotted flycatchers, delightful little birds that are sadly declining rapidly across the UK

we watched them catching flies above the river, then decided to follow the path that promised waterfalls.

We weren't disappointed.

A wonderful place to walk, though there is at one point a tricky flight of steps which are narrow and slippery when wet, which means that the route is described as 'strenuous' in the official notes, but apart from this one spot, it is quite an easy walk for anyone used to walking.

Another notable feature of the walk are, again, all the wonderful lichens

also a couple of wood ant nests

and this beautiful speckled yellow moth, a species which I've never seen anywhere else before but which was definitely the most common insect in this area, we saw lots of them every day of our trip

and this interesting beetle, which I haven't yet identified so if you have any ideas please feel free leave suggestions in the comments section.

It's a lovely area, definitely worth a walk round!
