Birds at Cramond

On a cold frosty day there's nothing like a good birdwatching walk to warm you up! Cramond is a great place to see birds and here are some of what we saw today:

robin

goosanders (male on left, female on right)

grey heron

We also saw a kingfisher, which flew around for a while, it's colours glowing beautifully in the sunshine!

We also saw lots of oyster fungi

 and hairy stereum fungi too

and up in the fields the Shetland ponies were very glad of their thick coats today!

Thanks Crafty Green Boyfriend for the photos of the birds and the oyster fungi

  3. Great walk and photos that enhance!
__ Kathy and I enjoy our reserve walks... Plymouth parks, Middleboro, Eastham and more, "wander wonders" we call them. Few know of what they miss of nature, when they walk through a mall following their cell phones. I think the Goosanders here, are called Mergansers, we like to see the more rare and sometimes the accidentals.

  4. Hi Eileen - yes our robins are very pretty little birds!

Simon - that's what we thought too!

Magyar - we also have a species of merganser, they're very closely related to goosanders (the females look very similar, though the males are quite easily identifiable).

  5. So lovely - I'll bet it is wonderful to live in an area in which you can get out in nature as you do.
