Time to hibernate already?

I was leading a guided walk along the Water of Leith in Colinton Dell today and we were delighted to see the orange ladybirds gathering for hibernation in the fence posts. They're gathering in a few places already but this was the most notable spot

It was another beautiful sunny day and the autumn colours are wonderful  and even better many of the leaves are still on the trees as we haven't had much wind recently!

  1. So that is what is going on! Our porch was covered with ladybugs last week, but haven't seen any in the last few days.

  4. Hi Lynn - I love the fallen leaves, but I am always sad if they fall too early, as i love seeing the coloured leaves on the trees

Gingi - it will be a ladybird species that is found here and not where you are

  7. Oh the migration of the ladybugs! Beautiful contrast when you see them in the fading fall colors outside! Not so fun indoors though ...one Autumn when we were traveling, we had them invade our RV ... they covered the outside and came in by the hundreds every time we opened the door. I guess they wanted to go South with us for the winter.
