Colinton Dell was buzzing with bees today, even in the dull weather this morning. This wildflower meadow is just one of the places that was hosting significant numbers of bees
In among the bees there were also some other interesting insects. Some of the umbellifer plants were covered with these capsid bugs (Grypocoris stysi)
I also managed to get photos of three species of hoverflies, here's Myathropa florea
and here's a pellucid hoverfly (Volucella pellucens) with a bumble bee in the background
and here's a Epistrophe grossulariae
Thanks to the UK Hoverfly Group for helping me identify the hoverflies!
The buttercups are still looking lovely too

ReplyDeleteFantastic shots here, I enlarged them all to see them close-up!

All the best Jan
So interesting these capsid bugs on the umbellifer plant, like the Lowcarb team I enlarged the photos to see them in close-up, so beautiful!
ReplyDeletelovely photos :)
ReplyDeleteI do love wildflowers. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteHello, pretty scenes and images. It is nice to see everything doing well and the bees are happy. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day and the week ahead!
ReplyDeleteLove the summer greens and am awed by your knowledge ... I feel smart when I can identify a bird correctly, and to know one hoverfly from another seems beyond belief. You inspire me to look more carefully and to follow up by reading about what I see.
