Today in Colinton Dell

It had been raining this morning before I went out to Colinton Dell along the Water of Leith. The raindrops were sparkling on the bushes.

The hawthorns are at that stage between flowering and fruiting

and the buttercups are still stunning

and the small islands above Colinton weir are bright with grasses and flowers

The common spotted orchids are now out in the orchid meadow (though too hidden away for photos as yet) and I had a wonderful view of a kingfisher speeding downstream.

  1. Nice photos. I like walking in the countryside after it's been raining, everything smells fresh and looks clean again.

  2. it does look lovely and fresh anticipating that everything will turn rather brown here in the next few very hot forecast days

  5. Speaking of hawthorns, you might find this book reviewed by a fellow blogger interesting: http://chrislatray.com/deep-roots/

  6. OH enjoy the rain for us! None for many days, heat well above average, wildfires, low flow streams. But still many beautiful spots to enjoy here too!

  7. Ian - yes it does make everything fresh

Sinon - i don't think the heatwave is going to hit Scotland or is it?

RexWis Girl - they're very pretty aren't they?

Bill - thanks for the 'ku. Leith actually means Water so its the Water of Water.

Sage - thanks for the link, it looks an interestign book

Rabbits Guy - we actually need more rain here, the river is pretty low at the moment. We'd like more sunshine though as it's been very dull for most of the summer so far.
