It's a beautiful clear but chilly day today. Just got back from a lovely walk along the Water of Leith. The highlight was definitely the goldcrest that flew round our heads at the end of the walk. Recently I've seen many more of these tiny birds than I used to do, they seem to be spending more time in the lower branches than normal. Or perhaps there are more of them? Always a delight to see.
Meanwhile I'm delighted to have two poems up on Gabrielle Bryden's blog as part of her Citrus Fiesta. You can read them here.
Those poems are lovely, I've just been scrubbing clementines for marmalade, and now they're simmering, the air is full of citrus scent!
ReplyDeleteI like the combination with the goldcrest too.
I love '48 hours without'. I have fasted before and that's exactly how it felt! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely bird (a bit like a fat finch). Thanks again for your poems (and the link) - it's a lot of fun this citrus fiesta.
ReplyDeleteNice work - and we do not have that warbler here. But in America there is a very rare warbler - the Kirtland Warbler with a very small habitat near where I grew up. Even then there was much effort to preserve the particular type of jack-pine forest these birds lived in. That always stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely day...off to read your poems.
ReplyDeleteI loved your poems on Gabrielle's fiesta blog. I'm so jealous of your Goldcrest sightings. We can only say - with no certainty - that we think we saw a couple last year in the evergreens. Shall have to look up my new area and see where we might find some!
ReplyDeleteI think the equivalent kind of thing to goldcrests in the US are called kinglets, which is rather lovely as in French they are 'roitelets' (general name for wren-like birds but not strictly wrens), and the Latin is 'regulus', which means 'little king' too.
ReplyDelete(They aren't warblers or finches.)
Thanks Lucy, couldn't have put it better myself. Kinglets are almost identical to goldcrests as far as i can tell, though they are different species.
ReplyDeleteCongrats--shall take a look! And I love the little goldcrests. So adorable.
ReplyDeleteLiked those... The fasting one especially... And just think, you now know how to get grand visionary source material for the next poem!
