Memories of a reddening moon sliding through the sky outside the window. I watched every moment of the last lunar eclipse. Awed. This time though there was no chance to see it. Our flat faces the wrong way. We're too lazy to get up very early and travel through the snow and ice to find (and climb) a hill from which to watch, with no guarantee of clear skies. I took out the recycling early as an excuse to look for the moon. No luck. From ground level it was too low to see.
Somewhere
behind those buildings -
lunar eclipse.
But I have memories from a few years ago, a reddening moon in an awestruck night.
Partial success here - it was a cloudy night and we had already planned a family movie trip. When we left the movie the eclipse was already a good way through, but we did catch a glimpse of the partially eclipsed moon through the clouds. Not very red-looking, though.
ReplyDeleteIt's the first eclipse I've ever seen, they always seem to happen behind clouds!
it was somewhat cloudy here too, didn't get to see the lunar eclipse either. i'm glad you got to see the last lunar eclipse though.
ReplyDeleteyour party dress a couple posts down is beautiful. you look great. have a wonderful day.
Too cloudy here, I will have to be satisfied knowing that it happened.
ReplyDeleteThere was an special atmosphere last night, a kind of waiting. Though I didn't actually see the eclipse, I kind of felt the anticipation.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm rejoicing because the days are getting longer again!
I missed the eclipse due to cloud cover. Very exciting though!
ReplyDeleteHappy winter solstice too! :)
I have seen several, but not the one last night. We had snow in the evening, and the cloud stayed all night.
ReplyDeleteHurray for the increasing sun! The dark time seemed extra long this year.
Let me know if you still have no success seeing today's lunar photos and I'll sort out another link for you.
ReplyDeleteNice haibun. I was a bit luckier on the eclipse front this time round, though also memories of the last. I've just escaped the rig and was at my sister's in Ayr where there was a convenient, if jolly cold, patio pointing in an eclipse direction - even managed to grab a snap of sorts.
ReplyDeletePhotographers
rise early for the eclipse --
in the trees, birds sleep.
I was indeed blessed. I got up 2:30 and watched until 3:30 from the bathroom window. They sky was clear and bright and stars were everywhere. I made wishes to the rabbit in the moon.
ReplyDeleteIt was incredible and I will never forget it.
xx, shell
Nope - all clouds.
ReplyDeleteIt wasd very beautiful - but bitterly cold too.
ReplyDeleteSame here - too cloudy :( but at least ours was in the early hours (just after dusk) - nice haiku :)
ReplyDeleteThe clouds came and went through the whole thing here. I caught a glimpse and then it was gone behind the clouds, but what I saw was lovely.
ReplyDeleteI looked forward to this one. We had not had a good eclipse viewing in a few years. In the past, the kids and I would have eclipse parties and lie on the front lawn on sleeping bags to watch, beginning in their kindergarten years. Their dad would take a quick peek now and then and bring us hot chocolate if it was cold outside.
ReplyDeleteWe'd had several incredibly clear nights in succession. We were hoping for another family eclipse party, but it didn't happen. Cloudy on the one night that it mattered to us. I even hoped there might be a faint red glow through the clouds. Nope. Oh, well.
