Arthur's Seat

We went on a lovely walk today around Arthur's Seat. it was very wet underfoot and icy in places, snow on all the hillsides and even more on the distant hills. Even so, spring was definitely in the air. The alder catkins were waving in the wind (see above) the jackdaws looked to be pairing up, the gulls were squabbling amorously and the tufted ducks (see the ducks behind the swan below) looked as though they'd spent all day preparing themselves to go to a formal event. We also found a shrew that dived into its hole as we passed on the way to the water then when we passed the same way again there was the shrew again! Plus Crafty Green Boyfriend rescued a caterpillar that was walking on the pavement.

(I took these photos last February on Arthur's Seat, it wasn't so sunny today and we forgot to take our cameras!).

  5. We had snow today, too, on the Beacons - and saw four Red Kites. Beautiful light in those photos, CGB!

  6. Now that would be the perfect place for a walk today! And it sounds like my husband is cut from the same cloth as CGBoyfrend! He has been known to hold up traffic to jump out of the car and move a box turtle from the middle of the road to the woods nearby!

  8. It's very windy here today, I was quite taken aback when I stepped out the back door, but it smells warm.

  9. I'm with all the caterpillar-saver praisers.
Tad chilly here today, as Eryl says. Spring showed for a couple of days, but has backed off again.

  11. __So many years ago, we tied up in Rosyth. USN, underwater surveys 1963. Wanted to get to the mainland but it never happened.
__I wanted to see the hills and Arthur's Seat... the Hadrian's wall remnants, and there, there is another wall (forgotten its name) that runs parallel to Hadrian's. Too, of course, the -Henge-. But that was then... I'm a captive to the ancient things.
__Well, enough of my gobble-de-gook! The real issue here? I love the photos... and the warmth of your writing!

  12. Ah, Arthur's Seat! My University flat was really close and we had a great view of it from my kitchen window. Sadly, I hardly went for strolls there at all! :(

  14. Thanks for calling and saying hello.
It's lovely that spring is in the air, though it's very windy here today! I do like Edinburgh, I must visit again soon.
Well done for being Blogger of Note! And also on your award, and for cutting short your list. I don't think I would have thought about doing that, I would just have remained stuck!
