intelligent eyes
in a sharp face
a rush forward
to sniff
a tussle
a ripped sandwich
.................................dropped
crumbs
a retreat
a shrieked quack
a duck
hanging limp
a bushy tail
swishing

I saw a sudden plethora of foxes around the place, Juliet. What a joy, the trickster spirit is irrepressable. And your poemfox like a rogue in a cape with the quick swish of his tail and gone, is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWith winter approaching the foxes are getting braver here, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem.
That is one poetic fox Juliet.
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern of guttural sounds - 'a shrieked quack// a duck..." - perfectly placed!
ReplyDeleteI was watching a fox in our front garden last night. A beauty. So ws this.
ReplyDeleteYou've been tagged.
ReplyDeleteHi Juliet, we've crossed paths before on EcoStreet. I've tagged you at http://tracystokes.co.za/2008/12/tagged/
All the best,
Tracy
How appropriate! I have a mom and 3 baby fox (?foxes) living in my backyard. I love to see mom's bushy tail as she dashes from place to place!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a fox!
ReplyDeleteA bushy-tailed fellow visited my blog recently, too, though my visitor was much less spunky than yours.

It's amazing who you can meet around here, if you keep your eyes open.
I love this, so lucky to observe nature at leisure. In a concrete city, nature does erupt here and there, but mostly it takes a back seat, blinded by city lights; though I have known friends to nurture foxes in their gardens.
ReplyDeletethe dropped part is so very clever. you are brilliant with your poems
ReplyDeleteLovely picture you painted here - I like foxes, so clever (and my bunnies are safely behind the walls). There were 2 that used to visit our back garden every night and early morning, but since the housing development finished they stopped coming.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invitation, btw, but sadly I have to pass for the moment - can't justify any books entering the house at the risk of having to move out ;-)
like the style of this poem- can imagine the fox- we have them in our backyard forest
ReplyDeleteBTW, I named my camera "foxy"! (There's two blog posts about that. I'm not joking).
Beautiful, Juliet. I can picture the fox and his "intelligent face." Such nice music in the lines, too.
