rhododendrons

raindrops
on rhododendrons -
doves gently coo.

I posted this photo and haiku last May, but it is perfect for yesterday's walk round the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh. It was a very wet day but the rhododendrons and magnolia were beautifully in bloom and plenty of birds were singing. We found some very friendly great tits, who would have fed from our hands if we had had any food for them!

  10. Thank you for your comment in my blog.

I love these flowers and I think they love rain much more than me.

  11. I can hear the rain in those dentals, and the coo contrasts effectively.

  15. Those big white tree rhodos are the most fabulous things. Lovely you made me think of them.

  16. Love Rhododendrons, so soft and sweet, and the the Great Tit's yellow tummy is quite nice as well. Birds here have been very active, twittering away at all hours of the day and night.

  17. We have a crazy rhododendron bush. I suppose they're much the same there, since your winters aren't that different from ours… blooming year-round. If a hard freeze kills the blooms, it shrugs and starts over.

There's some inspiration there. Just keep doing what you do best, regardless of conditions.

  18. Your words convey such a serene image that for a few moments the mind is so gently stilled.

  19. I love this haiku. Very nice. I'm amazed that the rhododendrons are already in bloom all the way up there in Edinburgh. Down here in northern Italy we have a profusion of camellias, and the azaleas are just starting to bloom, but the rhododendrons have a week, if not more, to go.

  20. the photo really looks like a delicate dove, paper thin and not singing but fragrant... i would like to take him in and sing to him.

  21. Made me smile - a nice antidote to Julie Andrews and those dreaded raindrops on roses!
